CD of the Week - 11 September 2011 This week’s CD, supplied to us by the artist and on her own label, features local Adelaide soprano and harpist, Emma Horwood, and is entitled 'The Song Garden'. This is her latest solo CD release, and was recorded in the intimate acoustic of St. James the Less Catholic Church at Macclesfield in May of this year. The album is a collection of songs from around the world, celebrating the beauty and tranquillity of gardens, and in particular, it contains a new song cycle “The Wild Garden of my Childhood” by Adelaide composer, Melisande Wright. CD of the Week - 4 September 2011 This week’s CD, on the Canary Classics label and supplied to us by Select Audio Visual, features Adele Anthony, violin, together with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra conducted by Arvo Volmer performing Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, Maninyas by Ross Edwards, and Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47 by Jean Sibelius. This is the only recording currently available of the Ross Edwards work. Maninyas is an Australian violin concerto, 'brimming with dancing rhythms and serene spirituality'. |
