THERE IS MUSIC AFTER MAD MARCH
Julian plays Jazz in April
Julian Ferraretto is an internationally acclaimed violinist who appeals to all music lovers, be it classical, jazz, world music or just music.Julian with his Quartet played with the members of the London Philharmonic Orchestra in the Royal Festival Hall in London in 2019.Now he is going to be playing at the Elder Hall, Sunday 18 April at 6.00 p.m. He will be accompanied by Elizabeth McCall on vocals, Shireen Khemlani on bass, Tom Kneebone on guitar.
As a boy Julian was inspired by Stefan Grapelli the famous gypsy-jazz French violinist. As a performer he brings the same joyous rhythm to his music. This concert will be a delightful way to spend an Autumn Sunday evening, appealing to all music lovers, be it classical, jazz, world music or just music.
With his violin under his arm and hope in his heart Julian Ferraretto set off to London in 2002. He had won myriad awards while studying in Adelaide. How will he go in a bigger world? As it happened, with great success, being invited to play his violin with top groups throughout Europe, including the North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreux (Switzerland) and London Jazz Festival.
Julian returns to Adelaide hitting the ground running, while continuing to maintain his international connections. Here he plays his violin everywhere – clubs, theatres, pubs, Festival Theatre, Adelaide Town Hall, St Peters Cathedral. As a teacher he works at both the Elder Conservatorium, Adelaide and – pre Covid – Goldsmiths University, London, while, at the same time running education projects for community groups and younger students. He improvises, composes, arranges and records. His violin has taken him a long way and to many places. And in April it brings him to Elder Hall.
